Brightstar Corporation – Interior Design

Project Location: Libertyville, Illinois

Project Size: 48,737 sf

Project Type:  Interior Design

Brightstar is one of the leading supply chain cell phone providers situated in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. Experiencing unprecedented growth and outgrowing their existing facility, Brightstar leased 48,737 RSF in an adjacent building in their office park. Under a tight deadline and budget restrictions, they looked to create a new updated and youthful environment that could attract young tech talent to work in their suburban location.

Flexible workplace strategies were offered as a solution to help Brightstar increase density to allow for future growth, provide greater collaboration, increase interaction between departments and define a new “open” culture. The design plan creates nodes of neighbourhoods to break up the large floor plate. Benching style work spaces, neighbourhood cafes, and collaboration areas on circulation hubs were overlaid into the design. Technology and infrastructure was designed to support employee choices of work style and to commit to creating a relaxed and open thinking culture. The team looked to take the project further and make it environmentally sensitive. The existing ceiling, lighting, walls and most MEP systems were kept in place to minimize demolition and landfill waste. Spaces were primarily defined using reclaimed wood and fixtures to give the space an eclectic residential but energized feel. A finish palette using low VOC, green and recyclable materials completed the design.
